God Bless America!!

I love the 4th of July.  This is what I was greeted with first thing this morning.  What a perfect greeting from Mindy.  Thanks Mindy!

It has always been a looked forward to and fun filled day as long back as I remember.  Parades, carnivals, picnics up the canyon and fire works at home and at the park.   However, the routine has changed just a bit.  Instead of going to a parade Neal, Jeff G., Emmi and I go golfing up at Wasatch Golf Course while Lynda Ann and the rest of her crew head to Alpine to gather Hintze side of the family.  She then meets up with us at Lila Mae’s in the early afternoon.

Our golf game was fun.  I only golfed nine holes and Jeff, Neal and Emmi stayed for another nine.  Our first ‘selfy’ of the day!

We almost always see deer on the golf course and this year was no exception.  However, it was on the back nine that I didn’t play but Emmi got two great pictures and I’ll have to post them later when she sends them to me.  It is a beautiful golf course up in the mountains and is very fun to play.  Thanks Neal, for treating us all to a fun golf game.

The dinner at Lila Mae’s was the usual.  Hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, fruit and all the trimmings.  It was a delicious lunch.  Les barbequed all the meat and there was certainly plenty to eat.  Lynda Ann brought some Rice Krispie squares in red, white and blue and also her red, white and blue pin wheel cookies.  Delicious!

Of course, we had to take a picture by the flag!    And with Neal, it is always a production!                            IMG_0882IMG_0883

Some fun pictures at Lila Mae’s.

Then comes the event that all, including most of the adults, look forward to.  Susan always has a bingo game with prizes galore.  This year the prizes where spread out on two tables and early enough that everyone got to scout out what was there and already have in mind the prize they were going to pick!  Susan always has piggy banks with $2.00 worth of nickels in them.  They are usually the first to go.  She makes a rule that you can only take one piggy bank until everyone has one.  I think Andrew ended up with four!  You can see the money is a sought after item!

Then, of course, comes the horse shoe game!  Neal and Les partnered up against Lynda Ann and I.  They won the first game and Annie and I won the second game.

By the time we were finished with horse shoes it was time to get all the chairs lined up out on the driveway to watch the fire works from Memorial Hill.  There is always fun stuff going on while we are waiting and candy being passed around to everyone.  Lynda Ann always brings Glow Sticks for all the kids and the adults to play with.  She and Emmi hooked a bunch together and decided to throw them up in the air and see how high they could get them.  Well, Annie gave hers a toss and she threw it right up in the tree!  We figured it might have to stay there forever or until a good wind came and blew it down, but Becky found a long pole and was able to retrieve it.

The fireworks were spectacular as usual.  We did see that one of the fireworks started a fire on the back side of the hill.  We could see the smoke.  As planned they already have two fire trucks at the top of the hill ready for any such emergency so I’m sure they were able to put it out.  It also started to rain just as we were leaving.  It rained hard and so that was a Heaven sent blessing to help put out the fire.  We got home about midnight, all tired and ready for a good night’s sleep.  Hope everyone had as fun on the 4th as I did!  Thanks again to Lila Mae for hosting this big party every year!  And a special thanks to Susan for the prizes and a fun traditional Bingo Game.  And to Les for always setting up the horse shoe game every year!
