Sunday morning Neal wasn’t feeling his best. We had decided to attend an early sacrament meeting as we both wanted to visit two other wards and one of the wards met during our wards sacrament time. The early meeting began at 9:00 a.m. Neal was uncomfortable throughout the whole meeting. We had an hour in between our next meeting so we went home. Neal decided he wasn’t going to visit the 1st ward and would rest while I was visiting a Relief Society meeting. I had another hour in between meetings so again I came home to find Neal feeling a little worse. He was having a lot of cramps and discomfort from the catheter. I went to the next meeting and he opted to stay home. Very unusual for Neal to not go to all his meetings so I knew that he was not doing well. I kept suggesting that I should take him to the ER but he wanted to wait. About 10:00 o’clock that evening he decided he just couldn’t wait any longer. The catheter was not working and the discomfort was getting unbearable.
We checked in to the ER and there were so many people in the ER that we had an hour wait. During that time he was walking trying to ease the pain. About 11:00 they called us back and as we were going into the ER out the doors came Bishop Anderson and his counselor Jeff Marlor from the Chevy Chase Ward in our stake. They had been there giving a blessing to one of their ward members. They turned and followed us back and gave Neal a blessing. Amazing! I so believe that they were supposed to be there at that time to give Neal a blessing. We had not called anyone, so no one knew we were there. The blessing gave both Neal and I the added encouragement that we needed. These tender mercies just keep happening over and over. Again, I am so grateful for the Priesthood!
Right after the blessing the doctor came in and took out the catheter and put in a new one and drained all the fluid that Neal had accumulated. He felt almost immediate relief from the cramping and pain. We were in the ER until about 2:15 a.m. They took a urine sample for a culture and told us we would get the results in the next day or two. Neal was to continue taking his antibiotics unless his urologist advised a stronger one.
Neal is still struggling with some cramping and discomfort but nothing like he experienced on Sunday. I am so grateful for the good medical people who are there when we need them and can give us the help necessary. So thankful that we are living in this day and age of all the medical advances.
Am I worried about Neal? Yes, very much so. Children and grandchildren keep your dad / Pa in your prayers. We aren’t over the hump yet, so we need your continued faith and prayers.
