Some pictures Jeff would want burned.

Jeffrey was such a Utah fan.  But if you go back in history you would know that he was once a BYU fan and spent many Fall Saturdays sitting on the 55 yard line cheering for the Cougars.  Here are some pictures of proof.  Hate to pop your bubble, Tucker, but this is Jeff and he doesn have a BYU Football shirt on!
 Hummm  Another BYU shirt!

Love this picture of Jeff and I

The pictures just keep coming

The Hintze scowl!  I laugh at this picture every time I see it.

People have been so kind.

Thursday evening when I came home from the hospital.  I was feeling pretty low.  I was going to change into my jams and spend some time going down memory lane with pictures.  Something told me not to change just yet.  I tried to ignore the prompting but again I felt that I shouldn't change.  About 10 minutes later the front door bell rang.  I opened the door and there was President and Sister Parry.  They came in and we visited for about 15 minutes.  It was comforting and very timely.  How I love the Parry's.

Friday evening, the same thing happened.  I was ready to put on my jams and had a feeling that I should wait.  I headed toward the closet to change and again I had an impression that I shouldn't change just yet.  About 15 minutes later the door bell rang.  I answered it and there was President Little and his wife Jan.  How wonderful to have people come by and express their love and concern.  This is the plant they brought to Neal and I.

Ron Lund (my boss), Ashley Hall, Heather Edwards and Dorothy Adams came by the house Friday morning and visited and brought me these beautiful flowers.
Then Saturday morning the doorbell rang and it was a delivery of flowers from Crystal (Sorensen) and her husband.  I was totally taken back and reading her note certainly brought me to tears.  People are just amazing.

We have also found water, a book and oranges on the porch from Karla Bartholomew who works with me.  A while later, there was a tray of meat and cheese and bread and a flower arrangement from Nanette and Vern.  I'm so grateful for all the expressions of love and concern that have come our way.

How I loved this boy! How I'm going to miss him!

Take every hug you can get from your children.  We never know when it will be the last hug.

Where have you gone?

This song has been in my mind and I keep singing it over and over:

Where are you going, my little one, little one
Where are you going, my baby, my own?
Turn around and you're two, turn around and you're four
Turn around and you're a young boy going out of my door
Turn around, turn around
Turn around and you're a young boy going out of my door
Where are you going, my little one, little one
With tadpoles and puppy dogs, where have you gone?
Turn around and you're tiny, turn around and you're grown
Turn around and you're a young man with babes of your own
Turn around, turn around
Turn around and you're a young man with babes of your own
Turn around, turn around
Turn around and you're the young man going out of the door
Where are you going, my little one, little one
Where are you going, my baby, my own?
Turn around and your here turn around and your gone
Turn around and . . . . . .

Life brings great happiness and great sadness

Our family is experiencing great sadness at the passing of our son, Jeffrey Ross Hintze. But along with the sadness is the joy of remembering what he brought into our lives.  Everyone loved Jeff and loved to be around him.  He could keep us all entertained with hospital stories, sports stories, family stories, etc.

Life does bring happiness, sadness, joy and pain, when we have little control over them.  I guess it is how we handle the great successes and challenges that make us who we are.

There was a song that my mother sang over and over in her last few months of her life.  "Red River Valley".  The first of the song says from this valley you say you are going. we will miss your bright eyes and sweet smile".  I am going to miss Jeff's bright eyes and his smile.  He had a wonder sense of humor.  For a while he leaves us behind to visit with those who have gone before.  We are now left in his absence to strengthen one another in our conversations, in our prayers and in our doings.  Certain things stand out in the hearts and minds of our family.  Impressive things that make up a legacy left to us.  A legacy that enriches our lives.  Not wordly things, not wealth but an example of a life that went about doing good and brought so much happiness to all of us.

As Jeff leaves us now for awhile, we will never forget the hours we spend with him.  His influence and his exquisite sense of humor that he always shared with us.  Although the sunshine that brightened our lives for a while has dimmed with his passing, I look forward to the time that I can be reunited again.

How I loved this son of mine.  For he was mine the moment that tiny 5 lb. 1 oz. bundle was placed in my arms.  I can go back to all the moments of cradling him in my arms, watching his every breath, feeling his tiny little fingers and knowing with a surety that he was just moments from our Heavenly Father.  He was a cherished gift, an answer to endless prayers and the love of my life.  I will miss you, my son..  From my heart to your heart!

Two of my favorite pictures of my Jeffrey.  There is another one of him with a spoon in his mouth.  I'll have to get a copy of that from Mindy.

Mallory's date!

Mallory sent me these pictures of her date to the Snowball dance at the high school.  Nice that there are lots of tall boys to choose from.  This young man is on the seminary council and one that Mallory had wanted to go to the last dance with but someone had beat her to it.  She found out that right after she asked him, someone else did.  She was happy that she had not waited.  Don't know all the details of the dance and her date but here are some cute pictures.

One of the girl's dad ordered a limousine for them.  That was a fun surprise.
Ah, how fun to be young again - well not for me.  I'm enjoying the season where I am in my life right now.  But I love hearing about my grandchildren's adventures.

I love three-day weekends!

This Monday is Martin Luther King Day and we have it off and I'm excited for an extra paid day!
Friday began the long weekend by leaving work at 3:30 to pick up Neal at the Front Runner.  From there we headed to the movie theater to see Concussion. It was a great movie along with popcorn and a drink.  After the movie we were hungry for something sweet so we stopped at the ice cream stand and Neal went crazy.  We both got the giggles because he just went ballistic! He not only bought three scoops of different flavors of ice cream but also bought a box of some special cookies.  They are very different and actually delicious.  I think the bill came to $30.00!!  Yes, just for ice cream and cookies!  It was a very fun evening and a nice way to begin a long holiday weekend.

Saturday morning found us getting up at our leisure and doing some much needed projects like changing some light bulbs in the stairwell, the master bedroom and the bathroom.  We ran to the container store and bought special hangers for his suit pants and some storage buckets.  Neal spent some time organizing some of his clothes that are seasonal, folded and put them in the containers to be stored on the top shelf of the closet.  I encouraged him to not be afraid to throw things away that he hadn't worn for a couple years.  I think he threw two white shirts and 4 hats was all.  At least it was a beginning!  Saturday was a lazy afternoon of watching football games, reading, doing the wash and stitching.  Neal was working on taxes, school and watching the football games.  I love those kind of Saturdays!  I'll be writing more as the weekend progresses.

Some things are hard to post but it is history

So they say that things come in threes.  Well this past week has been no exception.

The first bad news came from Susan telling me that Mary found out that her husband was having an affair with a young girl (a coach) at the high school where he works and the girl works and where Mary works.  The really sad thing is that the coach is Troy's youngest daughters coach.  Very sad and heartbroken for Mary.

The second news came Sunday night from Susan telling me that Kenny, Buster's son had committed suicide by shooting himself.  Never thought I would ever have to experience something that close to home.  Very sad ending for a nephew who had nothing in his life except drugs and alcohol.

The third news and I hope the last for a long time came again from Susan that Lila Mae had been on her way to work, was in the middle of the intersection and a girl ran the red light, clipped the back of Lila's car causing her car to spin and roll over.  The officers had to pull her out through the windshield.  She seems to be fine, which is a miracle.  Her car was totaled and the girl who hit her has no car insurance!!  Of course!!  We are just grateful that Lila Mae wasn't hurt and that we didn't lose her.

A sleepover for Emmi

I got a call from Emmi last Friday night asking me if she could come on the Front Runner and spend the night at our house and hang out with me on Saturday and then go back to school Saturday evening.  I told that would be fine.  I picked her up about 9:30 p.m.  We came back to the house and grabbed the new quilt that Annie made for Neal and I watched Deceived.  (Emmi had never seen the show).
Such a great movie!  Creepy, suspenseful and a nail biter at the end!
The next morning Emmi and I hoped in the Jeep and off to run a ton of errands that I had lined up and to have breakfast together.  We ended up at The Cheesecake Factory for a brunch, then to Eddie Bauer, browsing the mall, out to South Towne Mall and back to Talbots, then Costco and finally home.  Ron and Judy were coming over for dinner and bridge at 5:30 so we put Emmi on the Front Runner at 3:30 with hug and a kiss goodbye.

It was a fun weekend and an unexpected visit from Emmi.  I had such a fun time with Emmi and happy that she still likes to hang out with her grandmother.

Judy's gift

I had to post this picture of Judy and the gift that Neal and I gave her for Christmas.   This is to hang in her cabin in Scofield.  Her husband, Ron, saw this at someone home in Seattle and took a picture of it.  He then asked me if I thought I could get a pattern and do it for Judy.  It took some hunting on the internet but I was able to locate a pattern.  I don't do embroidery work.  I do counted cross stitch. Believe me there is a big difference.  I learned to embroidery when I was young but when I learned to do counted cross I never went back to doing embroidery work.  Susan loves this kind of stitchery so I asked her to help me with this.  After it was done and cleaned Neal took it to the framing shop to be framed.  This is the end result with a very happy recipient.

One more Christmas gift

In the mail we got a gift from Tucker and Jamie and the girls.  It was a gift certificate for Market Street Grill.  They know that is our favorite restaurant.  We were thrilled with the VERY generous gift card and the note that came with it.  Thank you Tucker, Jamie, Jordyn Lyn, Lexi and Peyton Jean.  Each time we eat there we will think of who gave us the gift.  Love it and love you.

Dinner with the adults

Neal and I wanted to have dinner with just the adult children so we planned a get together for Sunday evening.  Everyone said they could come but at the last minute Maren couldn't get off work and Greg couldn't come either.  We did have Jeff and Annie, Jeff and Mindy and Lyndsy and James.  We had a delicious dinner of home made potato soup (made by Annie) with a salad and fruit and ice cream for dessert.  After dinner we informed the kids that the reason we had them there was to tell them that we wanted to rent a beach house for the family for next Christmas.  We had Tucker and Jamie on the phone and were able to include them in the conversation.  Everyone seemed excited about the prospects.  Neal and I just felt that with Emmi getting close to graduating from college, Mallory and Jaden reaching missionary age in two years that this might be the last time we could get the whole family together before missions and marriages.  This is the picture of the table settings for the adult dinner.  Some times it is nice to just have a small group!  I loved using our brown and white china.
Of course I had to take a picture of my Christmas Cactus.  This wonderful gift blooms every single Christmas and I love it.

My new door wreath for January

This snowman is one that Susan got for me from some lady in Midway who makes them.  I fell in love with it when I saw it and had to have one.  He just adds the perfect decoration for the cold, snowy month of January.  Don't you just love it?

Taking down 2015 after bringing in the New Year

Thursday evening Neal and I went to the Bridge Center to play bridge and bring in the New Year.  We had a fun evening and for a change didn't come in at the bottom of the bridge players scores.  We got home about midnight.  It was a nice evening and a quiet way to bring in the New Year.

Friday morning we got up at our leisure and decided that we might as well take advantage of the extra day and take down Christmas.  It doesn't take as long to put things away as it does to set them up.  We got everything down and in boxes and packed away for another year.  We couldn't lift the big boxes with the tree in them so had to wait until our kids came over Sunday evening to put them up in the loft for us.  With Neal's shoulder giving him problems it just wasn't possible to lift them up.
