We got up a 4:00 a.m. to get ready and be at the airport by 5:30. Our plane, Alaska Airlines was leaving for San Jose, California at 6:30 and Neal, myself and Emmi wanted to be on it. The security lines went very fast. The only hitch was Emmi had her new tube of toothpaste taken away from her. Just a minor set back. We boarded the plane and it left Salt Lake City on time. Tucker and Lexi met us at the San Jose airport and we headed for San Francisco.
Emmi had never been to San Francisco so there were a few things we wanted to do. One was ride the trolley, the 2nd was drive down Lumbar Street and the 3rd was to visit China Town. Well, we didn’t take into consideration that we were in San Francisco the day after Christmas along with all the residents and tourist from all over the place! We would soon discover that the lines were horrendous!
The first thing we did was to visit a little café that Tucker said served the best breakfast in San Francisco. When we were finally seated and served he was proved right. We had to wait over an hour for a table but once we ordered the service with quick and efficient and the food out of this world. You can see by the attire that the temperature was a bit on the chilly side.
Our next stop was the Trolley. Little did we know that everyone in San Francisco was headed to the same place. Neal bought tickets, we got in line and in a two hour period moved about 20 yards. We looked at the line ahead of us and knew that riding the cable car wasn’t going to be an option. Neal was informed that they waited 12 minutes between each car so that they didn’t put too much stress on the line. Had we known that we would not have bought tickets. But we still decided to leave and we are hoping that we can get our money back.
Our next stop was Fisherman’s Wharf and Ghirardelli Square. They are right close by so we walked to both.
From there we hoped back in the car and worked our way to Lumbar Street where we realized that there was not a chance we would be able to drive down it that day. After waiting a good hour and not moving but about a 1/2 a block we threw that idea over and headed to China Town. Parking became a real challenge not matter where we went and China Town was no exception. We finally found a place to park and it was here that a guardian angel in Asian form came to our aide. As we were leaving the car this kind gentleman came running up to Tucker and in broken English told him not to park there. Tucker got back in the car and said he would wait while we found a bathroom and looked in a couple of stores. Finding a bathroom in China Town is an adventure all it’s own. We literally had to have Neal buy a couple pastries so that we could use the bathroom and I have to say they were the most disgusting bathrooms I’ve ever been in. But, back to our story. I think by this time we were all pretty much tired and ready to head to Kingsburg so we went back to the car. Tucker had driven the car around the block and when we got in he told us that he had watched three cars get towed away from parking where we were going to park. We felt very, very lucky that for some reason a stranger told us not to park there. This was the fourth car being towed as we drove away.
We arrived at Tucker and Jamie’s about 8:00 that evening and we were glad to be ‘home’. Rusty warmed up to us immediately. Roxie was a little slower but once she got used to us she wanted to be on our laps.
Roxie is Jamie’s baby. Notice the snaggle tooth!
