This Christmas Eve was a bit out of tradition. We were originally going to be at the house at noon so I decided that instead of doing a big fancy dinner we would have soup and sandwiches. As it turned out we ended up not getting together until about 2:00, didn’t sit down to eat until about 2:30 and there were a few comments about the traditional table not being set with the Christmas dishes, and not having the big fancy meal. So tradition wins out and from now on for as long as I’m capable, we shall have the big fancy dinner along with all the trimmings including the Christmas dishes. I have to say here that one of the reasons we didn’t use the Christmas china was because we have not soup bowls! I’ve never served soup in all the years we’ve had these dishes and so never thought about buying soup bowls. That may be something we are going to have to invest in over the next few years.
Dinner was delicious. Annie made her potato soup and we had all the fixings for hogies sandwiches with a variety of ice cream for dessert. Maren brought her famous pasta salad and some delicious chocolate cookies, Lyndsy her famous guacamole, salsa and chips, and Mindy a variety of caramel apples. All seemed to be well fed.
After dinner we hurried along with the present opening because it is Christmas Eve and familes have to get home to prepare for Santa. We didn’t have James with us. He was home sick. Jeff H. wasn’t feeling well but hung in there as long as he could.
It was a fun day with lots of visiting and laughter. Neal and I were spoiled as we are every year and we thank all of our children for their love and gifts.
Annie made me a ‘bed jacket’. If you don’t know what that is then you’ll have to wander back to the 40’s and 50’s to figure out what it is. It fit perfectly and it shall be well used! Had to take a picture of Maggie on the chair with a cushion.
This was a quilt Annie made for Neal. She was in charge of the table decorations at his 70th birthday and so she made a quilt from the fabric that was on the tables.
Grayson came on crutches. He hurt his foot or ankle. I never did get the whole story of what happened. Maybe when we make the rounds to day he can fill me in.
And this picture is of Taylor with her gorgeous, braceless smile! Thank Heavens for the great strides in medicine and dental care.
