San Diego–Day 2

Sunday morning we decided to walk over to the USS Midway.  This is one of the retired aircraft carriers that has been permanently docked at the San Diego Harbor.  My brother, Donald, served in the Navy as a navigator on the USS Kitty Hawk and so it was exciting for me to see how he must have spent his time on a ship, areas where he would have eaten, slept and worked.  We spent nearly four hours walking from level to level and end to end on this enormous vessel.

The bunks were stacked four high and you barely had space to wiggle.  The bunks were not accommodating to tall men.  Jeff G. would have been miserable had he lived on a ship at sea for a years duty.  We notice that under each bunk was a foot deep drawer where you stored your personal belongings.

We also noticed this display of different kinds of knots that we had to take a picture of and send to Neal.

The picture below was a great picture of Emmi because we were thinking of her missionary, Derek.  She had just bought him a post card prior and then we ran into this statue.

The rest of the day was spent wandering around the ‘safe’ part of the lamp light district.  We did a little shopping and then headed home to relax, watch a movie and get some sleep for our Monday adventure at Disney Land!
