A Scofield Weekend

First of all.  Neal and I have both been spelling Scofield “Schofield” which apparently is wrong.  there is no “H” in Scofield.  The computer doesn’t like the spelling without the “h” but that is the proper way to spell it.  Ron and Judy have been remodeling their cabin in Scofield and so Neal and I have not been down there for about 3 years.  It has been a slow process for them because Ron has done most of the work along with his brother, Mike.  They would go down when the weather permitted and when time permitted.  The completed gutted the cabin and added a whole new roof and an upstairs.  Now the cabin has a huge kitchen and front room combined, down the hall there are two bedrooms and at the end of the hall there is a bathroom, laundry room and the stairs leading to the upstairs sitting room and bedroom.  It is beautiful and we were so excited to see it for the first time.  We arrived there Thursday evening and had a delicious dinner, played bridge, watched a movie and then off to bed. I am always fascinated with the windmills and had Neal snap a couple shots of them.  These are just as you are heading up Price Canyon.  Pictured below is the kitchen and the front room.

Friday morning we had a delicious breakfast and then headed into Price for hamburgers and to drop Neal and Ron off to golf while Judy and I did some essential shopping for the cabin.  I also had her drive around Price and show me where she grew up.

Food was delicious and you can see that we all had on jackets.  It was off and on rain, wind and a bit chilly.  This is an old outhouse across the street from Judy’s cabin and between two cabins.  We don’t know who the outhouse belongs to but we laughed when we noticed that it was padlocked!!!  Seriously?  You will notice the second picture is our cars covered with a thin coating of snow.  Yes, we woke up to snow on the ground Saturday morning.  In fact when I woke up at 6:45 and looked out the window, it was a blizzard!

We were invited to drive up to Judy’s brothers 2 million dollars cabin that was around the end of the lake.  We got there about 10:00 and he had a delicious breakfast waiting for us.  We took a tour of the cabin, had breakfast and then Judy and I went back to the cabin to clean cupboards (from the remodeling) and put things away while the men headed into Price to play golf.  They weren’t gone long.  It was cold and rainy.  They were only able to golf 4 holes and had to quit because they were so cold.  You know it was cold if Neal gave up a golf game.  We had a roaring fire going when they got back to the cabin.  They helped us finish cleaning and putting things away and then settled in for an evening of bridge and a movie.  The picture below is Judy and I standing under the biggest and tallest minor in the world!

Sunday morning we went to church and then back to the cabin for a salmon dinner, naps and bridge.  Judy’s brother and family came over about 4:00.  It was fun to get acquainted with her brother and his family.  This is a picture of one of the 70’s that was visiting Scofield and closed the meeting with his testimony.  Notice the church is on Church Street.  Also, in the picture you will see a lady with a red shirt on.  That whole row was a group of polygamist.  There were three wives and a husband and some kids.

Judy’s brother, Terry, is an electrician and he brought some light fixtures for the cabin.  So while we were visiting, he and Ron put the lights up.

As they were leaving, Judy wanted a picture of all of them so we went outside and took a picture or two.

Judy’s brother gave us some Apple Beer so, of course we had to have a picture taken of us with the bottle of Apple Beer.  By the way, for those who may not know, there is no alcohol in this drink.  Not sure why the call it beer.  Just wanted to clarify that.  Didn’t want my grandchildren getting all excited! Smile I still haven’t tasted mine yet.

Monday morning we had a delicious breakfast of bacon, eggs, fried potatoes and waffles.  We were stuffed when we finished eating.  We cleaned up the cabin, put everything way, packed up and headed home about 1:00.  We stopped at the outlets in Lehi and did some shopping.and then home.  We had a wonderful long weekend and will be excited to go back again another time.  Judy extended a special invite to Annie and her family.  She remembered that Lynda Ann had been to the cabin a long time ago and wants her to come again and see how nice it is.
