69 years old today!

I got up this morning and the first thing I received was a text from Emmi wishing me a happy birthday with love.  Then about 5 minutes later a happy birthday messages from Mallory, then one from my counselor, Lisa and another from from Emilee Smith, Susan Corbet and Craig Sorensen.  They just kept coming in and it was fun to hear a whistle every few minutes.  I got a call from Lynda Ann and from Lyndsy with a “happy birthday” from River.  Tucker and Jamie both talked to me on Voxer wishing me a happy day.  Jamie even sang happy birthday to me.

Neal and I met Judy and Ron at the Bonneville Golf Course at 10:15.  We played 18.  It was a typical busy Saturday on the course.  It took us until 4:30 to finish the round.  After golf, we met at our house and had a delicious steak dinner with corn on the cob, salad and fresh fruit.  Dinner was topped off with some delicious rice pudding that Judy had made just for me.  It was delicious!  After dinner we got out the cards and played bridge until midnight.  It was a great celebration and a fun filled day!

Just before Ron and Judy got to the house, Neal gave me my birthday presents.  A beautiful Tommy Bahama watch and a gorgeous bracelet! (I think the bracelet is also a Tommy Bahama creation!  Dang!!  I could never be on QVC anymore with those 69 year old looking wrists!

Judy gave me a pineapple corer, a magnetic ball marker that fits on the lid of your hat and a gift card for “a new frock” when we go shopping on the way to Mexico next Friday.

What a great two days!  What a wonderful birthday with more to come!  We have been in invited out to Lynda Ann’s tomorrow evening for dinner and games.

I have to say that I am very blessed.  I’m still just as agile, strong and healthy as I was at 29.  I’m grateful for many things.

Grateful to be Neal’s wife.  We enjoy being together, hanging out with friends and traveling. Neal and I enjoy being empty nesters!  We love the freedom, quiet and solitude that accompanies that part of our lives. (Don’t be reading anything into that last statement.  We absolutely LOVE when the family gathers together and will continue to create that as often as we can.  We LOVE the sporadic visits from our children and grandchildren.  It would be a very lonely life without family).

I am grateful to be the Matriarch of a large family.  As of now we have 7 children, 5 in-laws and 19 grandchildren with the 20th on his way!

I am grateful for my testimony of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.  For the knowledge of the atonement and the blessings of being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  I know it to be true.  I love the callings that I’ve had throughout my life.  If I remember correctly, the first calling was leading the singing in sacrament meeting and being the chorister for junior Sunday school (that’s what they called it then).  I would have been a junior or senior in high school.  Served as the Young Women’s President three times, taught the Beehives, Mia Maids and Laurels, served in the Relief Society Presidency, taught Relief Society, taught Primary, taught the 16 and 17 year olds, taught Gospel Doctrine, served as the Stake Cultural Arts Specialist (don’t be laughing at that one!) was called to teach and play with the little ones in the nursery and am now serving as the Stake Relief Society President.

It’s been a busy life and one that as I look back – I am so thankful for.  Would I change anything?  Nope, not one thing.  Every challenge in my short life has taught me great lessons.  Those challenges have made me who I am today and will be tomorrow and the next day (and I like who I am)!  So happy 69 years to me and still going strong!!!
