The trip began on March 6, 2012. Maren, Greg, Jaden, Taylor and I left for Detroit at 3:30 p.m. arriving at 6:30 p.m. We had a nice dinner and then to the hotel for a good nights sleep. Taylor and I shared a bed and Jaden drew the unlucky straw of being the only boy and had to take up residence on the floor. The next morning we cleaned up, packed and headed down to the hotel lobby for some breakfast. After breakfast we headed back to get all our luggage and wait for the transport to the airport. Detroit is a very modern airport with a tram that runs along the second level carrying you from one end to the other. We had a bite of lunch while waiting for Tucker, Neal and Lyndsy to arrive.
Tucker texted Maren and told her that they were on the ground arriving at the gate in the next 5 minutes. We were to watch for the fat man in a little coat. So we made a sign and had Jaden hold it up for Tucker when he got off the plane. We had a good laugh when Tucker saw the sign.
We then had to wait until our plane left for Hong Kong at 3:15 p.m. The surprise and much happiness came when we stepped on the plane and realized that we ALL were going to be flying first class!! Yup, first class all the way to Hong Kong. What a blessing of comfort that was. I watched Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner, Sleepless in Seattle, an Affair to Remember, As Good As It Gets, etc. etc. Ate delicious meals and was pampered with slippers, pillows, blankets, socks, a night mask, tooth brush, tooth paste, etc. etc. Everything at a touch of a button!
We arrived in Hong Kong at 8:30 p.m. after a 16 hour flight. Derek met us an hour after the plane landed. The reunion was wonderful. After all the hugs, tears and hellos we headed for a good nights sleep at the Marriott. That concluded day one!
