We got up in the morning and went down to breakfast. We found out that there was only one complimentary breakfast that came with each room so Lyndsy and I let Neal have the breakfast and we went back up to the room and grabbed the luggage and brought it down to the lobby ready to board the bus that would take us to Guang Zhou (pronounced Jo). The bus ride was three hours. We arrived at Derek’s apartment about noon. Everyone was hungry so we all piled into taxies and went to Derek’s bar and grill called The Brew, for lunch. He treated us all to hamburgers, chicken wings, and all kinds of appetizers. Notice that in Hong Kong they drive on the wrong side of the street from us.
Lyndsy and I got a big kick out of the signs in China. This particular one was in the bathroom at the Brew. The significance of the sign is that in China, most of the toilets are squatter toilets – they are level with the ground and you squat over the toilet to do your business. The Chinese people are not used to American toilets where you actually sit down to do your business. Derek said they were finding the Chinese people climbing on the toilet seat and then squatting to go. As we know, toilets sits were not made to stand on! Thus the sign.
After lunch we went back to the apartment, cleaned up and got ready to go to the circus where we were treated like royalty! Derek had arranged for us to have free admission and V.I.P. seating. What a treat to see Derek in the show and performing. He is incredible and the finale is him jumping from a 75’ platform into 16’ of water. He is the highlight of the circus! The first picture is of Derek’s girl friend, Ting Ting. Of course the usual picture of Neal asleep while waiting for the circus to begin.
