Annual Breakfast With Santa and Mrs. Clause

Our annual Breakfast With Santa sure seems to come around fast. Didn't we just do this a few months ago?
The breakfast consisted of Eggs, Bacon, Pancakes and milk or orange juice. A very nice breakfast for the price of $3.00 per person.

Now isn't this a surprise - Annie holding Boston!

One of Santa's Elves
This is Abby with her little friend Ainsley.
All Abby asked for was a Polar Bear (stuffed polar bear, of course.)
Andrew asked for a Criss Cross Crash
Hayley wants a Signature German Shepard Webkins
Taylor asked for a camera and Brock wants a Monster Truck
River wants a Pillow Pet
Here the kids are making count down until Christmas chains

Lyndsy and Brock showing off their antlers. Notice Lyndsy's right antler.
Back rows: Taylor, Abby, Brock, River, Hayley
Front Row: Ainsley and Andrew
I only did this because dad, like most men, loves Marilyn Monroe
Taylor as Marilyn
Lyndsy as Marilyn and James as (?) I have no idea!

Facial by Lyndsy - WONDERFUL!!!!

I went to Evolve Salon where Lyndsy does her magic. She is doing some kind of facial work on me that should make me look years younger! I told her I can't relax and not to expect me to enjoy it or even fall asleep. Well, guess what, I not only fell asleep, I slept through almost the whole procedure. I would become aware that I had been sleeping and then fall right back dreaming again. Amazing how fast the time goes by when your mind drifts off to 'la la land'. I have to say, that Lyndsy does an incredible job. No, I don't mean that I'm going to look younger. I'm saying that Lyndsy is an incredible massage therapist. If she can put me to sleep then she has nearly performed a miracle. I always have a million things going on in my mind and a list a mile long of things I need to get done. Stopping in the middle of the day for a facial is way, way down on my priority list - until she gave me one! Anyone and everyone should sign up for a massage from Lyndsy. It will be an incredible, relaxing and wonderful experience. I think I have four more treatments and I'm looking forward to every one of them! Thanks Lyndsy. And, by the way, you are BEAUTIFUL! Love, Mom
These pictures are probably a sneak preview of what I'll look like in my coffin!!! Only I will be all in white. Sure hope it is warm!

Update on my counted cross project - going into the 3rd month.

You can see I'm making slow progress. The counted cross takes a lot of time but when you add the outlining stitches to bring dimension to the work then you are adding hours and hours. Notice the different in the bottom of the tree where the outlining has been done and the top of the tree where there is no outline stitching. Also the top two squares have both been outlined.
I would say I'm about 1/8 the way done. I'm in to this project about 2 months now working on an average of two hours a day in the evenings. That gives one a clue as to the hours and hours of work that goes into a sampler.

Continued celebration of Neal's birthday

Neal and I went to Market Street Grill for dinner. This was our favorite dating place and was the place we hung out the night before we got married.

Don't you just love these balloons. These balloons were in Neal's office when he arrived at school on his birthday. The students helped him celebrate all day by singing and even taking him to lunch.

Neal's birthday - 67 years

Happy Birthday Neal! He was just going out the door to teach at UVU. Looking pretty dapper! Notice Bella by the door hoping that someone will invite her to go for a ride in the car.
There is a song by Anne Murray that I just love and really sums up our courtship and time together. "Can I Have This Dance For The Rest Of My Life"
Our first date was going to a Ward Dance with Joyce and McKay Phippen. That began a wonderful courtship and engagement.
There are so many qualities about Neal that it is hard to pin them down. I love that he allows me to be me. He never questions - he accepts. That is a wonderful quality in any relationship. He supports my church callings along with my every day needs that add variety to my life and his. He goes along with projects that I get him involved in and NEVER complains. Not once. He is honest, hard working and very much in love with me, his children and grandchildren and life. What a wonderful example he is to all who know and love him.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY NEAL - I LOVE YOU!!

Mother's birthday - November 27th

Mother was born November 27, 1906 in Seattle, Washington and died July 26, 2003.
My tribute to my mother:
My mother's hands became her last instrument of expression in the last few days and weeks of her life. Her hands reached out to greet, to acknowledge, to thank, to love and to say goodbye. I have looked at my mother's hands for years, but just before she died I looked at them with a different set of eyes. The eyes of a grateful daughter who has since remembered that those were the hands that first held me. Those were the hands that I first learned to trust. Those were the hands that cooked and cleaned for me, wrote me letters, signed my birthday cards, my mother's day cards, wrapped my birthday, Christmas, and Mother's Day gifts, sewed for me, crotchet and knitted for me, and quilted for me, turned the pages of good books that were read to me, but most important, pointed me in the right direction and prayed for me.
Those hands were beautiful and strong. There were no hands like my mother's. Her tender care will never be forgotten.
Everyone of us likes to hold hands. We see so many hands being held. I love to hold my husband's hand. I love to hold my daughter's hands, my son's hands, my beautiful grand children's hands. I love to put my arms around my children and grandchildren and hold them very close to me. There is something so magical when hands are held. It is like a quiet heart to heart talk.
What a cherished memory of my mother a few weeks before she died when we had our last heart to heart talk as I looked into those beautiful blue eyes of hers and she held my hand. Friends asked if she was able to talk in the end. She was always able to talk, but you had to listen very carefully.
I believe our Heavenly Father was right there extending his right hand as my mother left this mortal life and I have all the trust in the Lord that she was never alone, because she walked hand in hand in His paths.
I know that the hands that first held me, will once again hold me.
Mother wrote this poem called:
"Infinity"
"Like thread unwinding from a spool
Our lives move on an inch or two each day.
Not always evenly; often snarls of indecision,
Knots of trouble frustrate and delay.
Though we complain at all the tangles,
They are not obstacles but blessings,
From Him who gave us life,
To strengthen our soul and teach us humility.
One day the last inch of thread unwinds,
The spool is empty - just as we must go
To other worlds - unwinding other spools -
Perhaps."

It's beginning to look alot like Christmas!

Poinsettias are always a sign of the holiday season.
Getting started.

This is the tree skirt that Lila Mae and Susan made for Neal and me.

Putting on the last tree ornament.
Christmas stockings made along with the tree skirt. I've had similar projects and I know that these were made with lots of love. Thanks, Lila and Susan.
By the way it snowed another two or three inches last night and it is still coming down. Off we go to shovel the snow so we can get out of the driveway for our Sunday meetings. Sigh . . . Maybe there is something to say about living in California!

Thanksgiving Dinner and games.

Lynda Ann is amazing. This is the center piece she made out of bread dough. Of course the kids wanted to eat it, but I just couldn't stand the thoughts of having it destroyed so we kept it in one piece until late in the evening when the grandchildren proceeded to eat the whole thing!
I love Thanksgiving and find it to be my favorite holiday of the year. No pretense, no gift buying, no over the top decorating, just a time of family gathering, enjoying a good meal and enjoying the blessings of a happy posterity. I am thankful for all my children and grandchildren. Thank you for making Gam and Pa's life so full and so complete.
Because it was the off year, we missed having Tucker and Jamie family and Jeff and Mindy family. We rarely have Derek who is in China and Spencer and Walker who live in Colorado. Hope all had a happy day.
I might add that we had Jeff and James help Neal put up our Christmas tree before they were allowed to go home. Thanks men!

Lynda Ann didn't get to bed until 4 a.m. With Lyndsy massaging her feet and legs, Annie was put right to sleep.
Lyndsy doing what she loves most. And I might add that everyone who has had a massage from her says she is the best!!
Playing games. This is the games where you don't want the lowest card. I'm not sure it has a name!
Surprise - Annie holding Boston!
We always end the evening by playing 6-Handed Rook. Notice again, who is holding Boston.
After the Gertsons left, Maren got on line to do some Christmas shopping so James, Lyndsy, Neal and I played MahJong. I think Lyndsy actually ended up being the winner of that game. So you see Tucker, I don't win every time!

Thanksgiving bowling!

We began turkey day by meeting at Fat Cats Bowling Alley. Last year we were told they open at 9:00 a.m. and had to wait in the parking lot until 10:00 when they opened their doors. So, this year we called and were told they would open at 10:00. Well we got there at 10:00 and they had opened at 9:00! My goodness. Thank goodness there were four alleys available and side by side. Bowling the morning of Thanksgiving has become a tradition for our family. In fact there was a discussion about how long we've been doing this and when it started and if there was a few years when we didn't go. Anyone remember the history?
These are the two game total scores: Neal 266, Jeannine 229 (I actualy beat Neal one game by 2 pins!), Emmi 158, Jeff G. 353, Lynda 211 (Lynda and I always have a bet and I ALWAYS WIN!), James 84, Lyndsy 89 (they only bowled one game along with Maren and Greg because they go there quite late) Maren 125, Greg 93, Jaden 115, Taylor 87
Brock and River lost interest early and headed for the game room.

Jaden and Taylor
Brock - happy
Andrew - not so happy
Lynda Ann and Jeff with Boston. If Annie isn't holding Boston then Jeff is.
Maren and Greg
Lyndsy, James and a very unhappy River
Mom and Dad alias Gam and Pa
The Gertson's minus Andrew. He had already discovered the play room
