There is a lot of preparation that goes into having all the children and grandchildren over for dinner and some traditional activities along with spontaneous ones. Tables need to be brought in from storage in the garage, chairs need to be brought up from downstairs and then tables need to be covered and place settings arranged. Of course there is the food preparation, which brings the anxiety of trying to decide what to have that the majority would like and just how much to buy. As our family grows in number and in size the food doesn’t seem to stretch quite as far as it used to. This Easter celebration was no different than most of the others. We had roast beef and ham along with all the usual trimmings.
The day began for me by doing all of the above! Once I get the food in the oven and the tables arranged and set I can relax a bit. Lynda Ann called and said that their family was coming in early to see a movie called “The Bears” put out by Disney. Annie and I love those kind of movie. I was invited to join them. They picked me up at 12:00. It was an excellent movie.
We got back to the house about 2:00 and began the last minute preparations. When I walked in Neal was painting our eggs with the help of Mr. Boston. A cute scene that I didn’t catch soon enough. However we did get a picture of his painted egg that he was very anxious to show off.
Everyone arrived on time and we were sitting down at the tables at 3 p.m. All the girls brought fun items to share with everyone. Abby made Easter baskets our of cupcakes, Annie made another bread creation. An Easter basket out of bread dough that we filled with hot rolls. Maren brought some delicious macaroons and Lyndsy made some Easter bunnies for every grandchild. Everything looked very festive! Thanks to all of you for sharing your cooking talents.
After dinner came a few moments of relaxing while the kitchen was being cleaned up and then the egg hunt! Eggs were distributed and hidden out in the yard in preparation for the kids to go find their eggs. Below, Maren and Greg catching a few rays! The weather was absolutely perfect. We spent most of our day out on the patio!
